"I don't know what to start with" is one of the most common statements I hear on the sales floor at Smile.
This comment is influenced by several factors I think. When you see an array of close to 200 oils, it is a bit mind-boggling!
Secondly, for many people there are cost concerns. If folks are buying the best quality oils as I encourage them to do if they are looking for therapeutic effects, it can add up quickly.
I believe your best bet if cost is a prime concern is to start building an oil collection gradually. Buy one or two at a time and get to know them well. If you add one or two a month, soon you will have a good selection but the most important thing is that you will have oils of a quality that will serve you well.
Beginning with Oils
So…. Here are my suggestions on where to begin; I've given you just a taste of what these oils can do!
- Lavender- "The Mother Oil"- I think along with rose, the most beloved oil of all! Very, very safe. Seems to be a very fitting oil for this day and age since it eases stress, helps you sleep, relieves migraines & helps lift depression. It is excellent for the skin, stimulating circulation and cell regeneration. Anti-septic, antibiotic, antidepressant, sedative & immune system stimulant. It has been used extensively for healing of burns, rashes and infections.
- Chamomile- A lovely gentle oil. There are several types of chamomile oil & each has certain attributes. Extremely helpful in supporting the nervous system. Useful in treating anxiety, depression and anger. Also very beneficial to the skin and hair.
- Geranium- I think of this oil as very strengthening emotionally, particularly for women. It acts deeply & is a support for the nervous system and acts as a sedative. I use it a lot to help me get through what I know will be a hard day.
- Peppermint- Good for the respiratory, digestive & circulatory systems. Used to treat headaches, varicose veins, fatigue & much more.
- Eucalyptus- Important first aid, particularly in the cold and flu season. It is antiviral, antibiotic, antiseptic, analgesic and diuretic. Diffused into the air or used in baths, it breaks up congestion extremely well.
- Rosemary- A physical and mental stimulant- great to use when studying for big exams or when doing a big project for work. Helpful in many kinds of muscular ailments. Stimulates circulation and memory. Great also for stimulating hair growth!
- Tea Tree- Antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal & antiseptic. Used to treat all kinds of infections, ringworm, athlete's foot, acne & tooth & gum problems. Very strong with great safety, even for children.
- Citrus Oils (Lemon, Bergamot, Grapefruit, Mandarin, or Lime)- Citrus oils have many, many uses and they smell so good! All citrus is uplifting to the spirit, antibacterial, stimulating to the digestion
