About Black Lives Matter (from the BLM website)
Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, Inc. is a global
organization in the US, UK, and Canada, whose mission is to eradicate white
supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities
by the state and vigilantes. By combating and countering acts of violence,
creating space for Black imagination and innovation, and centering Black joy,
we are winning immediate improvements in our lives.
We are expansive. We are a
collective of liberators who believe in an inclusive and spacious movement. We
also believe that in order to win and bring as many people with us along the
way, we must move beyond the narrow nationalism that is all too prevalent in
Black communities. We must ensure we are building a movement that brings all of
us to the front.
We affirm the lives of Black
queer and trans folks, disabled folks, undocumented folks, folks with records,
women, and all Black lives along the gender spectrum. Our network centers those
who have been marginalized within Black liberation movements.
We are working for a world where Black lives are no longer
systematically targeted for demise.
We affirm our humanity, our contributions to this society,
and our resilience in the face of deadly oppression.
The call for Black lives to matter is a rallying cry for ALL Black lives
striving for liberation.
Founded in 1909 in response to the
ongoing violence against Black people around the country, the NAACP (National

rights in order to eliminate race-based discrimination and ensure the health

Mundi- ADRIANA AYALES, Owner
I am the herbalist, medicine
maker, educator and founder over at Anima Mundi. I'm
originally from Costa Rica and started Anima Mundi several years ago in
Brooklyn as a means to bridging ancient remedies to the modern world. My heart
was to create a true farm to pharmacy experience through the art of medicine
making with herbs. We offer a wide spectrum of remedies and plants from around
the world, integrating from several traditions that I've studied over the
years, such as rainforest tribal styles, Ayurveda, Chinese-Daoist
Medicine, and European style alchemy. I believe that by preserving these
ancient forms of indigenous botany, we keep alive a very sacred aspect to
our source. Anima Mundi was founded with the intention to bridge ancient
healing traditions and plant remedies as a form as grass roots healthcare
for today's world.

Co-Founder Ebony Payne, LMT, Clinical Herbalist
Born and raised in Washington DC,
Ebony Payne is a 2011 graduate of Potomac Massage Training Institute with over
7 years of experience as a licensed massage therapist, specializing in
myofascial therapy. She began studying traditional herbal medicine in 2013 at
the Mid-Atlantic School of Herbalism with clinical herbalists including Claudia
Joy Wingo, the director of the three year program.
Inspired by an experience with a
single cup of ginger tea that eased a severe bout of digestive pain, Ebony was
drawn to learning more about the medicinal uses of plants and food. While
studying under practitioners of Western and Ayurvedic herbal traditions, she
first conceptualized District Herbs as a second year student intending to bring
herbal medicine into her massage therapy practice.
At the same time that her herbal
studies began, another herbal movement was underway. The medicinal uses of
cannabis and hemp were beginning to be formally recognized nationwide including
in Washington DC. As Ebony saw more and more people take a sudden interest in
plant medicine, the impact and importance the legitimization of cannabis
and hemp would have for herbal medicine as a whole immediately became evident.
After graduating from the
Mid-Atlantic School of Herbalism in 2016, Ebony set out to connect people to
the full scope of traditional herbal medicine by harnessing the excitement
around the rise of cannabis and hemp. Knowing that she would need an expert and
mentor to carry this vision to success, Ebony enlisted the help of Claudia Joy
Wingo to co-found District Herbs into the company it is today. The two are
excited to bring their line of medicinal loose leaf teas and hemp salve for
pain relief to the community and though the journey has been long, it has only

Heritage got its start on the streets of Harlem. Fresh out of college and
without jobs, Richelieu Dennis and Nyema Tubman set out to bring the healing
traditions of African Black Soap and Shea Butter to the community they loved.
Short on experience but full of passion and determination, they mined their
knowledge of culturally authentic healing traditions to create natural skin and
body treatments to share with their families and community. That was back in
1992, and they've held fast to that commitment every day since.
